Are you tired of the same old ideas year after year? Do you want your children challenged in school? We have a tremendous obligation to provide our children with the best that they deserve. You deserve a School Board that is there to provide the necessary essentials our children and schools need. The Botetourt County School Board has become nothing but a rubber stamp for the Superintendent. There is no accountability on the current Administration. We need fresh ideas and fresh challenges to make learning fun and school productive. I humbly ask for your vote and the opportunity to serve you and our children as the Blue Ridge representative on the Botetourt County School Board.
ABOUT ME
My name is Matthew J. East and I want to be your School Board Representative for the Blue Ridge District. I was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley graduating from William Byrd High School in 1994. I have lived in the Blue Ridge District of Botetourt County for over 14 years. God has truly blessed my wife Erica and I with two precious daughters ages 14 and 9. As a graduate of Liberty University with a Masters degree is Management and Leadership and a Bachelors degree in Business Management and Accounting, I learned the leadership and life skills to be a success in everything I set my mind too.
I strongly feel that the School Board has simply become a rubber stamp for the Superintendent. Unfortunately, fiscal responsibility has become a thing of the past and your tax dollars are not being used efficiently. I want to change that and make sure that the children of Botetourt County have the best educational opportunities available. We have tremendous teachers and staff in our school system. However, it has become more of a bureaucracy than an education system. In 2014 the Virginia Department of Planning and Budget hired MGT of America to conduct an efficiency and effectiveness review of the Botetourt County Public Schools. MGT commended the school system for many things. However, for every commendation there were two items that they could improve upon. The estimated savings associated with these recommendations was over $2.5 million over a five year period. Has the Administration and the School Board implemented these changes? The answer is very few. Why? Because the Administration and the School Board do not feel as if your tax dollars and opinion really matter.

​Fight for YOU and your CHILDREN everyday that I am in office.
Bring fiscal responsibility back to the school system.
Hold OUR Administration accountable and remind them that they are there to serve the CITIZENS, not themselves.
Fight to ensure that you as parents have a say in what goes on inside the schools.
Ensure a SAFE learning environment for our children, with updated security measures.
